모래시계를 유심히 살펴본 적이 있다. 좁은 통로를 지나가는 모래를 바라보며, 시간이 멈춘 듯한 느낌이 들어 혼란스러웠다. 한 걸음 떨어져 다시 바라보니 모래는 분명히 아래로 향하고 있었다. 모르는 사이에 꽤 많이 쌓여 있었다. 모래시계는 내 삶과 닮아 있었다. 고되고 지친 일상을 살아내면서 성장이 멈춘 듯한 기분, 열의를 가지고 도전해도 계속 제자리 혹은 뒤처지고 있는 느낌, 이전에는 이런 우울이 찾아올 때마다 곧바로 좌절했다. 이제는 모래가 내려가는 통로에만 집중해서 그런 것이라는 생각을 한다. 돌이켜보면 이전보다 훨씬 나아졌고, 탁월하지는 않더라도 미미하게나마 성장한 부분들이 존재하기 때문이다. 천천히 흐르고 있기에 당장은 보이지 않지만 분명하게 쌓이고 있다는 사실, 때론 의미 없어 보이는 다양한 경험들도 모래처럼 결국엔 무언가를 이룰 것이라는 확신이 무기력했던 나를 움직이게 한다. 
 I once found myself closely observing an hourglass. Watching the sand flow through its narrow passage, I felt a strange sense of stillness, as if time itself had stopped. It left me disoriented. But when I took a step back and looked again, I saw the sand steadily falling downward. Without realizing it, a significant pile had already formed at the bottom. The hourglass felt like a reflection of my own life. Living through exhausting days, I often felt as if I had stopped growing. Even when I faced challenges with determination, I seemed stuck in place or even falling behind. In the past, moments like these would immediately lead me to despair. But now, I see that I was too focused on the narrow passage where the sand flows. Looking back, I realize I’ve made progress. It may not be remarkable, but small and subtle signs of growth are undeniably there. The slow and steady flow of sand reminds me that progress isn’t always visible at first, but it’s constantly accumulating. Even experiences that seem meaningless at the time will eventually come together, like grains of sand, to create something greater. This belief continues to pull me out of inertia and drives me forward.
