점점 더 심해지는 자기혐오와 비관, 자책 속에서 그 돌은 점점 덩치를 키우고 있었다. 이제는 숨이 턱 막히는 지경에 이르렀다. 아, 어떻게 하지. 알아서 녹기를 바라는 마음으로 방치할 것인가. 나름대로 깎아 조각상을 만들어 볼 것인가. 멍하니 앉아 있는 것보다 움직이는 것이 더 나으려나. 금방이라도 부러질 것 같은 칼을 쥐고 조금씩 다듬어 보기로 했다. 녹색 돌덩이가 희미한 빛을 품기까지의 과정은 생각했던 것보다 지난했다. 그리고 이내 찾아오는 미약한 평안. 보기 좋게 다듬고 나니 나름 근사한 거 같기도 하다. 언제까지 계속할 수 있을까? 가능하면 오래하고 싶은데.. In the growing weight of self-loathing, pessimism, and self-blame, the stone kept getting bigger. It had reached the point where I could hardly breathe. Ah, what should I do. Should I leave it alone, hoping it will melt on its own? Should I try carving it into some kind of sculpture? Maybe it’s better to move than to sit there blankly. I decided to take the knife—one that felt like it could snap at any moment—and try shaping it little by little. The process of making that green stone hold even the faintest light was harder than I expected. And then came a slight sense of calm. Once it was shaped nicely, I thought it looked somewhat decent. How long can I keep doing this? I’d like it to last, if possible…
